Mamata begins Goa trip as TMC eyes coastal state

Panaji/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has kickstarted her political campaign in Goa where her Trinamool Congress (TMC) is aiming to contest the next state elections due to be held in early 2022.

Banerjee, who was in North Bengal for the last few days over her administrative works, reached Goa Thursday evening.

She was greeted by local TMC members while was shown black flags allegedly by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters, who are her arch-rivals.

After a meeting with her party, Banerjee is scheduled to interact with fishermen community, civil society members and visit a few temples Friday.

The TMC supremo is expected to return to West Bengal on Nov 1 after concluding her three-day trip.

After wresting power West Bengal for the third consecutive time decimating the BJP, Banerjee's TMC is aiming to expand and start its campaign in Tripura, Assam and Goa, which are ruled by the saffron brigade.

Recently, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said, "In 10-15 states, TMC will have a working committee soon."

We will fight in Tripura, Assam, Goa, said the TMC number two man.

Weeks ago, former Goa Chief Minister and Congress veteran, Luizinho Faleiro along with some other members from the party had joined the TMC.
