Mamata Banerjee trying to turn West Bengal into West Bangladesh: Dilip Ghosh
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal unit BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Sunday blamed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the widespread violent agitation against the amended citizenship law across the state and alleged that TMC is trying to turn West Bengal into West Bangladesh.
Hitting out at the chief minister, Ghosh alleged that the chief minister's ultimatum against the destruction of public property, arson and violence is an eyewash.
"Trains and buses are being burnt, stations ransacked, roads and rails blocked ...how could these things happen if the chief minister of West Benga l had meant what she said. Her ultimatum to the troublemakers was an eyewash. What is happening is proof of what I am saying, She is trying to turn West Bengal to West Bangladesh," he said.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly also lambasted the chief minister saying the violent protests across the state is going unabated under the support of the ruling TMC.
"The chief minister doesn't know what she says. Citizenship Amendment Act has been passed by parliament. She has no power to reject it," said Ganguly.
Agitation against the newly amended law continued to rock West Bengal on Sunday. Protestors blocked the road connecting Birbhum and Murshidabad districts with burnt tires at various places.
Trinamool Congress district president and former MLA Shaukat Molla led a protest march in South 24 Parganas' Canning.
A procession against the Citizenship Amendment Act was held in Howrah from Shibpur Tram Depot to Howrah Maidan by Trinamool activists led by state MInister Arup Roy.
Agitators burnt tires on railway tracks in Taluka Road Railway Station in Malda district's Harishchandrapur. A large police force has been deployed at the stop.
Akra station in Sealdah-Budge Budge was attacked by the protesters, after which a large contingent of police from Maheshtala Police Station was sent to the spot. Police had to resort to baton charging and fire gas shells to quell the protesters after they attacked the policemen.
Meanwhile, passengers staged protests in Kharagpur station and gheraoed the Station Master's office after Howrah-Sikanderbad Falaknama Express allegedly departed before the scheduled time. The passengers said they had travelled to Kharagpur in local trains to catch Falaknama Express on the scheduled time as updated by the railways. The Station Master said he had no information about such an update.
