Mamata Banerjee congratulates Arvind Kejriwal, AAP over Bawana bypoll win

Kolkata/New Delhi, Aug 28 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday wished Delhi Chief Minister Arvidn Kejriwal after his Aam Aadmi Party won the Bawana bypoll.

Banerjee tweeted: "Congratulations @ArvindKejriwal and @AamAadmiParty for winning #BawanaByPoll."

The AAP has retained the Bawana bypoll.

The AAP, represented by Ram Chander, won the election by a margin of 24,000 votes, with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in second place and Congress third.

Bawana is one of the biggest assembly constituencies of Delhi.

Ram Chander defeated former party colleague Ved Prakash who left AAP for BJP in March this year, which in fact necessitated the bypoll as Ved Prakash had to resign as a legislator.

After today's win, AAP has 66 MLAs in the state assembly of 70 members.

In its official Twitter handle, AAP said, "Thanks to people of Bawana for showing confidence in AAP. Congratulations Ram Chander Ji for winning election."
