Mamata Banerjee, Chandrababu Naidu agree to work together for development of regional parties
Bengaluru, May 23 (IBNS): Turning the swearing-in ceremony of Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy -as the Karnataka Chief Minister - into a platform for striking up an opposition unity, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday, expressed their willingness to work together to strengthen the regional parties.
Banerjee and Naidu are present in Bengaluru to attend the swearing-in ceremony, which will install the Congress-JD(S) coalition government in the southern state.
Interacting with the media, Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief, said: "We are here to support Kumaraswamy.....We want to work for the development of the states and the federal front."
She also said that if the states become strong, the Centre will also be strong.
Standing beside Banerjee, Naidu reiterated the West Bengal CM's words to say, "We will work together in future. We want to promote and strengthen regional parties."
Apart from Banerjee and Naidu, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) leader Sonia Gandhi, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury are likely to be present at the swearing-in ceremony.
Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) chief, K Chandrasekhar Rao, met with Kumaraswamy and former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda on Tuesday.
Along with Kumaraswamy, Congress' G Parameshwara will also be swearing in as the Deputy CM of the state on Wednesday.
The Congress will get 22 ministries compared to 12 for JD(S).
Congress lawmaker KR Ramesh Kumar will be the Speaker of the Vidhan Soudha.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4.30 pm.
