Mamata Banerjee calls on BJP MP Anant Maharaj in Coochbehar, triggers speculation

| @indiablooms | Jun 18, 2024, at 08:41 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: Triggering speculations of new political equations, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday visited Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Nagendra Nath Roy, popularly known as Anant Maharaj, during her visit to Cooch Behar after the Trinamool Congress won the seat in the Lok Sabha elections.

Mamata visited Anant Maharaj at his residence and also offered prayers at Madan Mohan Temple.

The TMC supremo's visit has assumed significance as Anant Maharaj had turned rebel against the BJP after it announced its erstwhile Union Minister Nisith Pramanik as the Lok Sabha poll candidate.

Maharaj had alleged he was not consulted by the party before announcing the candidate.

In the Lok Sabha polls, the TMC has pulled off a victory in the seat, which was clinched by the saffron camp in 2019.

TMC's Jagadish Chandra Basunia won the seat polling 2 percent more votes than Pramanik.

Meanwhile, Mamata reached Phansidewa on Monday to take stock of the Kanchanjungha Express train accident that killed 9 people.

Training her guns at the Centre, Mamata alleged the Railway Ministry didn't implement the anti-collision device which she had started during her time as the Railway Minister
