Major fire at Hyderabad exhibition ground, several hospitalised

Hyderabad, Jan 30 (IBNS): Several people have been hospitalised after a massive fire broke out at the Nampally Exhibition Ground here this evening.

Reports quoted police sources as saying that the fire started at the Andhra Pradesh Mahesh Cooperative Bank Limited stall around 8.45 pm and quickly spread to nearby stalls. A short circuit is likely to have caused the fire.

Various reports put the number of hospitalised people between seven and nine.

Eight hundred of the 3,000 stalls at the exhibition - most of them made of bamboo sheets and cloth - were affected by the fire, Hindustan Times said.

More than 10 fire tenders are been trying to bring the blaze under control.

“The authorities have responded immediately and are in the process of extinguishing fire. Luckily, there are no reports of any casualties,” Exhibition Society chairman Eatala Rajender said.
