A major accident was averted after a goods train moved from Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir without a loco pilot and was finally stopped after it covered 80 kilometres, media reports said.

The train was halted near Unchi Bassi in Punjab's Dasuya.

A video of the train has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the train could be seen crossing a station at a very high speed.

A source told UNI news agency that the train reportedly covered 80 kms without drivers at a very high speed.

“An inquiry has been initiated into the matter by the Divisional Traffic Manager Jammu,” the source said.

Why did this incident happen?

According to reports, the loco-pilot forgot to pull the handbrake before getting off the train which was at a halt at a station.

The train reportedly started moving down the sloping track and eventually gained speed.
