Gondia/UNI: Over 50 people were injured when a goods train collided with a passenger train in Maharashtra's Gondia district before dawn Wednesday.

At least 13 are said to be in serious condition.

An official said the accident took place at around 2:30 am when a passenger train going from Chhattisgarh to Rajasthan derailed after it hit a goods train from behind.

Though the driver of the train applied the emergency brake, he could not avert the accident, said the official.

All the injured were discharged after first aid while one person is said to have sustained serious injuries and he remained in hospital.

No casualties were reported.

The express train resumed its further journey after over three hours, the official added.
