Maharashtra: Severe water crisis in Marathwada

Aurangabad, Apr 30 (UNI) Water situation is worsening day by day in Marathwada region, as around 2638 tankers are supplying water to eight district in Marathwada.

Last week the number of tankers were 2534, means 104 tankers have increased within a week to quench the thirst of 40 lakh people.

Of eight districts, Aurangabad, Beed and Jalna districts were the worst hit.

Report from divisional commissioner office stated that in Aurangabad district 1013 tankers were supplying water to 683 villages and 253 hamlet covering 15.15 lakh population.

In Beed district 814 tankers were supplying water to 593 villages and 316 hamlets to 11.39 lakh people.

Similar situation is faced by the Jalna district, where 458 tankers are supplying water to 399 villages and 86 hamlets to 8.37 lakh people.

In Osmanabad district 106 villages and seven hamlets were facing water shortage and water was being provided through 133 tankers to 2.65 lakh population.
While rest of the four district include- 78 tankers in Nanded, 44 in Parbhani, 39 in Latur and 38 in Hingoli, they said.

The administration also acquired 4327 private wells for supplying drinking water to affected parts in the region, report added.
