The Israeli government has decided to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire, in Israel, marking a significant cultural gesture between the two nations.

The announcement was made by Israeli Consul General in Mumbai Yaniv Revach during the Shiv Rajyabhishek Din celebrations.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Revach said: “On Shivrajyabhishek Din, I wish to proudly announce that we are going to install a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Israel.”

He further stated that he had approached Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking cooperation to ensure the memorial appropriately reflects Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy.

“To make the memorial worthy of Maharaj’s legacy, we sought cooperation from Chief Minister @Dev_Fadnavis, and he immediately agreed to provide it,” he added.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the announcement and confirmed the state’s full support for the project.

In his post on X, he wrote: “This is huge news! On the auspicious occasion of #ShivRajyabhishek Din, heartfelt thanks to Israeli CG @yanivrev for this historic announcement of installing a grand statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Israel.”

He further added: “Maharashtra Government will extend complete support for this historic initiative. Jai Bhavani, Jai Shivaji.”
