Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan appoints religious leaders as MoS, creates controversy

Bhopal, Apr 4 (IBNS): Creating a fresh controversy, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appointed five religious leaders as the Minister of State (MoS), media reports said.

Five religious leaders- Narmadand, Hariharanand, Computer Baba, Bhayyuji Maharaj and Yogendra Mahant- were appointed to a committee which was set up for the conservation of Narmada river on Mar 31.

As the MoS, all five will enjoy the perks of a state minister.

With less than a year to go for the state polls, opposition Congress has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is trying to gain "political points" through the move.

Rubbishing the claims, the ruling BJP said the Congress dislikes anything related to the religious leaders.

Madhya Pradesh, which was embroiled in a controversy due to the Vyapam scam, will head towards the assembly polls at the end of this year.

The elections in MP will be crucial for both ruling BJP and opposition Congress ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
