Lumpen elements getting preferences in Congress, says party spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi

New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi dropped a bombshell in the season of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections when she tweeted that lumpen elements in the grand old party who abused and threatened her were getting preferences and let off.

"Deeply saddened that lumpen goons get prefence in @incindia over those who have given their sweat & blood. Having faced brickbats & abuse across board for the party but yet those who threatened me within the party getting away with not even a rap on their knuckles is unfortunate," posted the 40-year-old politician who was earlier a columnist for Tehelka, DNA and Firstpost.

Some Congress leaders in Uttar Pradesh had allegedly misbehaved with Priyanka Chaturvedi while she was attending a press conference at Mathura.

But media reports said they were reinstated in the party for earning popular support after some initial action like suspension.


A blogger and book reviewer and mother of two, Priyanka Chaturvedi is a popular face of Congress now as a spokesperson and she recently took on BJP's Smriti Irani by mocking her for her educational qualification claims.

After Union Minister Smriti Irani declared that she did not complete her graduation,  Priyanka Chaturvedi  mocked the actor turned BJP leader for changing her educational qualifications.

"A new serial is going to come, It is Kyun Ki Mantri Bhi Kabhi Graduate Thi (The Minister was also a graduate)," Chaturvedi said referring to the popular serial Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in which Smiriti Irani starred and earned nationwide popularity.
