Sabarimala, Apr 8 (UNI): The Lord Ayyappa temple here will be opened on April 10 in connection with Vishu festival, the beginning of the Malayalee New Year.

Head priest V.N. Vasudevan Nampoothiri will open the sanctum sanctorum at 1700 hrs and light the lamp in the presence of chief priest (Tantri) Kandararu Rajeevararu.

The temple will close at 2200 hrs on the day.

The Vishu falls on April 15. The temple will be closed on April 19 after the festival.

Rituals like Neyyabhishekam, Kalabhabhishekam and Padipooja will be performed all the days from April 11 to 19.

The temple will be opened for the next monthly poojas on May 14.

The temple had witnessed a series of controversies in the past months with the Supreme Court lifting the age-old ban on the entry of women to the shrine.
