#LokSabhaElection2019: Left picks Kanhaiya Kumar as candidate for Bihar's Begusarai

| @indiablooms | Mar 24, 2019, at 10:22 am

Patna, Mar 24 (IBNS): President of the JNU students' union Kanhaiya Kumar will be the CPI's candidate from Bihar's Begusarai for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The will mark the popular student leader's entry into electoral politics.

The decision was finalised by the Left on Saturday after Kumar was not included into the opposition's coalition in Bihar.

He will be joint candidate of the Left parties from Begusarai, reports said.

Kumar was expected to be the candidate from the oppositions' alliance for Begusarai.

However, no seats were given to the CPI and CPI-M in the mahagathbandhan or grand alliance.

The seat-sharing formula was a clear indication that Kumar will not be supported by the grand alliance.

Tejashwi Yadav's RJD's bagged the Begusarai seat instead.

Bihar's Grand Alliance:

The RJD will contest 20 of Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha seats while Congress will fight from only 9, the Grand Alliance of opposition parties announced on Mar 22.

Sharad Yadav of Loktantrik Janata Dal will contest on the RJD symbol this election and will merge his party with the RJD after the election.

Other alliance partners Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) and  Vikasheel Insan Party (VIP) will field candidates in five and three seats respectively. Former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest from three seats.

The ruling JDU and BJP will contest 17 seats each while Ram Vilas Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party will fight for six seats.
