New Delhi: A large number of Sikhs, including members of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGNC), officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, media reports said.

According to some media reports, as many as 1,500 Sikhs joined the saffron party amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

BJP president J.P Nadda asserted during the event that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has genuinely worked for the welfare of the Sikh community, according to the reports.

He highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the government to support the minority community.

Nadda cited government actions such as the opening of the Kartarpur Sahib corridor, the registration of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) for donations to the Golden Temple, and the prosecution of individuals involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.

He underscored the BJP's high regard for the contributions and sacrifices made by the Sikh community for the nation and reiterated the party's commitment to continue working for their well-being.
