Mumbai/IBNS: Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar has said lockdown is likely to be imposed in the city if daily COVID-19 spike crosses 20,000, media reports said.

"We will have to impose a lockdown in Mumbai if daily COVID cases cross the 20,000-mark," Pednekar said.

Pednekar said a mini lockdown is likely if people continue to gather in big numbers amid the surge in cases.

The financial capital of the city reported 8,082 infections in the last 24 hours.

Among 1,892 'Omicron' cases reported so far in India, Maharashtra tops the list by registering 568 of them.
