New Delhi, July 26 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a dead lizard was found in the veg biriyani served to a passenger traveling in Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express, media reports said on Wednesday.

Passengers reportedly complained over the issue to Indian Railway Minister on Twitter.

A passenger complained that for nearly four hours no medicine was given to him after he fell ill.

He also said that ticket examiner and the pantry car attendant allegedly did not respond after complaint was made to them over the lizard issue.

Kishore Kumar, a senior railway officer at Mughalsarai, was quoted as saying by NDTV: "We will investigate and take strong action."

On Twitter user Meghna Sinha posted: "@sureshpprabhu Sir poorva exp irctc lizard found in biryani HA1 seat no 1."

Last week, in what was a bad news for people who prefer to have Railway food every time they travel, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), in its report, said the foodstuff served are not suitable for human consumption.

In its report, the CAG also warned that cleanliness and hygiene were not being maintained in catering units at stations and in trains.

"Hygiene and cleanliness in respect of the food stuff served was not ensured by the railways on stations and in trains as observed in the joint inspections undertaken by Audit along with railways. Unfair practices were being followed in execution of catering services at stations and trains," read the CAG report.

" Bills were not given for the food items sold, menu cards were not displayed for the benefit of passengers, food stuff served was less than the prescribed quantity and Proprietary Article Depot (PAD) items were sold at the railway stations at significantly higher prices than market," the report further said.

The CAG warned that the food served to passengers was unhygienic.
