Kolkata: Triple talaq petitioner Ishrat Jahan alleges her kids were kidnapped, rescued later

Kolkata, Aug 31 (IBNS): Hours after triple talaq petitioner from Kolkata's twin city Howrah, Ishrat Jahan, claimed that her two children had gone missing from her residence, police rescued the duo on Thursday late evening, reports said.

Earlier in evening, the 31-year-old woman from Howrah's Pilkhana area said that she lodged a complaint at Golabari Police Station after her kids went untraceable.

"My 7-year-old son, Md. Zaid Alam, and 13-year-old daughter, Shaista Khatoon, had gone missing since 11:15 am. today," Ishrat Jahan told IBNS.

"I lodged a police complaint in the evening mentioning that my children had been kidnapped by my ex-husband, brother-in-law and his wife," Ishrat Jahan alleged.

However, nearly an hour after the police complaint was lodged, the kids were rescued by police, according to officials.

"Father of the kids took them to his relative's place in Burdwan and after getting our direction, he reached Liluah Police Station with the children," a local police official told IBNS.

"Later they were brought to Golabari Police Station and the children will be handed over shortly to their mother," the official added.

Lawyer Nazia Elahi Khan, who represented Ishrat Jahan in the Triple talaq suit, told IBNS, "Both the son and daughter of Ishrat Jahan have been found 'unhurt'."

"From the beginning, we had been claiming that Ishrat's relatives including  her ex-husband and in-laws, who had been threatening her and abusing her since the Supreme Court announced instant triple talaq 'unconstitutional', were involved in the case and now that is proved," Nazia Elahi Khan added.

The lawyer said that they will appeal to local police to provide Isharat Jahan and her kids adequate security to avoid such incident in future.

Nearly 15 years' married life of Ishrat Jahan's came to an end in 2014 after her husband Murtaza Ansari called the mother of two from Dubai and uttered the word 'talaq' thrice.

Following the incident, Ishrat moved to Supreme Court against the years long practice of instant triple talaq.
