Kolkata: CESC sub-station fire under control

| | Oct 16, 2015, at 08:46 pm
Kolkata, Oct 16 (IBNS): The massive fire, which broke out in a Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) sub-station at Dumdum Central Jail More area in Kolkata on Friday, has been brought under control.
Three transformers at the sub-station exploded and a multi-storey residential building nearby was also partly damaged due to the fire. But the building was completely evacuated before the fire could spread.

No casualty has been  reported in the incident.

The fire was first seen at the sub-station at around 11:30 am. and it spread quickly. Police, disaster management group (DMG) and fire tenders rushed to the spot.

As many as 15 fire fighter engines along with a special foam-containing engine reached the spot and fire fighters fought for two and half hours to bring the blaze under control.

When the fire department was blamed for delayed action, director general of Fire Gour Ghosh told IBNS: "Fire department worked properly. We deployed 17 engines to the spot. But for huge traffic jam, those could not reach the spot at right time. The fire has been brought under control completely now. The fire broke out in a very congested area and firemen prevented the fire before it reached to the residential buildings and petrol pump nearby."

However, the cooling off process is currently underway. Fire department has started investigation to know the exact reason of the fire. No casualty has been reported so far.
