Kannur/UNI: Two Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) workers sustained injuries with one nearly losing a limb when an explosion occurred while making country-made bombs at Muliyathode near Panoor early Friday.

According to the police, Vineesh (24) of Muliyanthode and Sherin (26) of Puthoor suffered injuries; one of them completely lost one of the palms, and another suffered injuries to the face and legs. Both have been admitted to a private hospital at Chala near Kannur after receiving first aid from a cooperative hospital at Thalassery.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when they were engaged in making crude bombs on the terrace of an abandoned house at Mulayanthode.

Reports said that police rushed to the spot, following the alert of local residents, and shifted the injured person to the hospital. Panoor Circle Inspector Premsadan-led team conducted a raid at nearby areas and examined the spot. A case has been registered, the police said.

Panoor is one of the politically sensitive places in the district and has a record of many clashes reported between CPI (M) and Bharatiya Janata Party workers.
