Kerala: RSS leader hacked to death, Palakkad tense

A former RSS district functionary was hacked to death in an alleged attack by a five-member Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) gang after they barged into his shop at Melamuri, one of the stronghold area of BJP in Palakkad town, on Saturday.

According to police, the deceased was identified as S K Sreenivasan (45), former district RSS Saririk Sikshan Pramukh and pracharak of Mavelikara and Balussery taluks.

The attack was suspected as a retaliation for the murder of Subair (44) of Kuthiathode near Elappully, a PFI local leader, who was hacked to death in an alleged attack of RSS on Friday.

Tension prevails in Palakkad as two political murders happened within the last 24 hours. Sreenivasan was running a shop selling second hand two-wheelers named SKS Autos at Melamuri.

The assailants came in three scooters and barged into the shop and attacked Sreenivasan with swords.

He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Sreenivasan is survived by wife Gopika and a daughter Navaneetha. More police force would be deployed in the district, police sources said.
