Kerala: LDF leads in 90 seats against UDF's 48
New Delhi/Thiruvananthanpuram, May 19 (IBNS) Almost three hours since counting began for the various state assembly elections, the trend in Kerala is highly in favour of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), a coalition of Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India Marxit (CPIM) and other left aligned parties.
Veteran politician and former Kerala chief minister, V.S. Achuthanandan, said on Thursday that a "left wave is visible", various media sources reported. He has been the leader of the Opposition in Kerala since 2011.
Speculations are rife about who would be the next chief minister of Kerala if the LDF comes to power, which seems highly likely.
Talking to NDTV, CPI MP MB Rajesh said that the party was expecting to do well as they were fighting against corruption and had exposed the frailties of the Oommen Chandy led United Democratic Front (UDF).
But he refrained from commenting who could be the next CM of Kerala, saying that it will be decided in the party's meeting in Delhi on Friday and Saturday.
As of eleven am, the trend is LDF is leading in 90 seats and UDF in 48 while BJP is ahead in one seat. Counting of votes is under way for 140 seats.
