Kerala experiences heavy rain: 5 districts on red alert, several tourist spots closed

Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has put five districts of Kerala on red alert as the state is experiencing heavy rain, media reports said.

As per IMD's 1 pm update, Pathanamthitta and Idukki were placed on red alert.

Apart from these two, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam have been upgraded from orange to red.

Seven other districts have been placed under orange alert.

According to a report, a 70-year-old died in a lightning strike at Bangalam in Kasaragod district.

Several regions including the tech park in Kochi were flooded due to the rain.

Due to the rains, several tourist spots have been closed.

Here are the list of the tourist spots

1. Ponmudi Hill Station in Thiruvananthapuram
2. Hilly areas of Idukki district
3. Beaches
4. Waterfalls Athirappily and Vazhachal
5. Gavi
6. Several dams
