Malappuram/UNI: A case has been registered against former Union Minister and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi on Friday, on the charge of making provocative comments in the social media in connection with the killing of a pregnant wild elephant in Silent Valley forests at Palakkad recently.

The BJP leader's remarks and controversies followed after a 15-year old pregnant elephant had chewed a coconut stuffed with firecrackers and sustained major injuries to her mouth leading to its painful death in Velliyar river near here on May 27.

Though aimed at trapping wild boars that were destroying the corps, the trap coconut was eaten by the elephant from a plantation near Silent Valley reserve forests and died after sustaining major injuries in her jaws.

Responding to the unfortunate and traffic incident, Maneka Gandhi had tweeted that Malappuram district was known for intense criminal activity.
In fact, the incident had occurred in Palakkad district and that the trap was not meant for and indented to kill an elephant.

Following the tweet and follow-up controversies, a group of ethical hackers by name Cyber Warriors of Kerala had hacked the official website owned by Maneka Gandhi, “People For Animals” (PFA).

Sources said acting on complaints filed by seven different persons, the Malappuram police has bundled all and registered a case under section 153 of IPC (provocation with intent causing communal hatred) against the senior BJP leader.

Meanwhile, the investigation in the killing of the wild animal is progressing. The police has arrested a rubber tapping worker in this connection.

The accused is believed to have made the firecracker-stuffed coconut under instructions from the plantation owner.

The plantation owner and his son were absconding.
