Kerala catholic priest and two nuns arrested for protecting rape accused fellow priest

Kannaur, Kerala, Mar 17 (IBNS) : A catholic priest and two nuns accused of shielding a fellow priest accused of raping a minor girl surrendered to the police in Kerala's Kottiyoor on Friday, NDTV reported.

The arrested priest, Father Thomas Joseph Therakam is the former chairman of Wayanad Child Welfare Committee, while one the nuns- Sister Betty Jose Sister Ophelia are respectively  a members of the committee and superintendent of the orphanage.

They have been charged with covering up the rape of a teenager that took place last year and protecting the accused.

They will be produced in the court in the afternoon.

Father Robin alias Mathew Vadakkencheril, who was the vicar of the local church in Kottiyoor and the prime accused in the case was arrested on February 28 on charges of sexually exploiting and impregnating a 17-year-old girl.
