Kenya: 48 killed in Mpeketoni attack

Nairobi, June 16 (IBNS) At least 48 people were killed as suspected militants attacked hotels and a police station at Mpeketoni town in Kenya, media reports said on Monday.

According to reports, several buildings were set on fire in the town.

The attack which started on Sunday night continued till Monday, reports said.

"At least 48 people have died after al-Qaeda-linked militants attacked hotels and a police station in a Kenyan coastal town," BBC reported quoting officials.

"Somalia's al-Shabab group said the attack was carried out to avenge the presence of Kenyan troops in Somalia and the killing of Muslims,"it said.
