Kejriwal Govt. suffers setback as HC rejects its request against ACB chief
The government had requested the court to prevent Meena from entering office.
Meena was selected by Delhi's Lieutenant Govnor Najeeb Jung with whom the Kejriwal government has been engaged in a bitter turf war over primacy in administration.
Meena was appointed to the post about two weeks ago following a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
The government argued that as the centre's representative in Delhi Jung does not have the right to appoint bureaucrats.
The High Curt is, however, hearing the petition.
Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday had said that Meena was currently under the scanner for an alleged hawala racket.
Earlier last week, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had written to Union home minister Rajnath Singh citing the rule book and pointing out that there was no post of joint commissioner in ACB at present.
When Kejriwal won the Delhi election with a record mandate, he picked SS Yadav to lead Delhi's Anti-Corruption Bureau and investigate complaints of graft among government officers.
Earlier this month, the Lieutenant Governor said that Meena is the appropriate candidate as he outranks Yadav.
In a counter move, the government said Meena would not be allowed to enter his office.
The AAP government had earlier accused the centre of using the Lieutenant Governor to run Delhi by proxy while opposing the appointment of senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gramlin by Jung.
