Kashmir Valley shivers; Srinagar, Pahalgam continue to experience coldest nights
Srinagar/UNI: Kashmir valley shivers as Srinagar and Pahalgam continue to experience the coldest nights with temperatures dipping to -1.8°C and -3.3°C, respectively, on Wednesday, officials said.
Srinagar experienced consecutive coldest nights, with temperatures further dipping from -1.2°C to -1.8°C on Wednesday, and it was -1.9°C below normal for this period of the season, the MeT office said.
Similarly, Pahalgam also recorded the lowest temperature of the season on Wednesday at -3.3°C against -2.9°C the previous night. It was -0.9°C below normal for the tourist hot spot in south Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Qazigund, on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, recorded a minimum of -1.0°C against -0.8°C the previous night, and it was -1.1°C below normal for the gateway to Kashmir.
Kupwara settled at -1.4°C against -0.8°C recorded a day ago, and it was -0.5°C below normal for the frontier district of Kashmir, while Kokernag recorded a low of 0.3°C today against -0.2°C recorded a day ago. It was -0.3°C below normal for the Picnic spot in south Kashmir.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir had settled at 0.6°C on Wednesday against -0.6°C recorded the previous night, and it was 2.7°C above normal for the famous ski resort of Kashmir, the MeT office said.
Most parts of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, were gripped by haze, and the fog forced commuters to move their vehicles while keeping on the headlights amid dim visibility. The fog is likely to continue till November 27 over many places in Kashmir.
The MeT office predicted the weather will remain generally dry but cloudy with the possibility of light rain or snow at isolated higher reaches on November 23.
From November 27 to 30, the weather will remain generally cloudy, with the chance of light rain or snow at isolated higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Overall, there is no significant weather activity till the end of November," the MeT office said.
