Kashmir: Three drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar/UNI: Three drug peddlers were arrested and contraband substance recovered by police in the Kashmir valley, a police spokesman said on Sunday evening.

He said police in Anantnag at a checkpoint established at Padshahibagh Bubehar in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bijbehara, intercepted a vehicle with two persons on board. During the checking police recovered 54 Kgs of poppy straw from their possession. They have been identified as Amir Fayaz Bhat resident of Katriteng Bijbehara and Faizan Ahmad Najar resident of Waghama Bijbehara.

They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Bijbehara where they remain in custody. Officers have also seized the vehicle used in peddling of drugs.

A Case FIR No 13/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been taken up.

Similarly, personnel from Police Station Nigeen, Srinagar arrested a drug peddler identified as Mudasir Ahmad Shalla resident of Tielbal Kashipora and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A case FIR No 12/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Nigeen. He has been shifted to Police Station Nigeen where he remains in custody.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings, he said.
