Srinagar, Sept 11 (UNI): A wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba militant was killed in an encounter with security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the apple township of Sopore in north Kashmir district of Baramulla on Wednesday.

According to the official sources, security forces conducted a CASO early this morning, during which an encounter ensued.

A militant identified as Asif of LeT was killed during the exchange of fire, they said, adding that he was wanted in many militant activities in north Kashmir.

Further details were awaited.

Eight overground (OGWs) workers were arrested by security forces during separate raids in Sopore recently.

The arrested OGWs were involved in pasting and circulating threatening posters, forcing people to observe strikes.
