Srinagar/UNI: A non-local was shot dead by militants in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, police said.

The victim was identified as Mukesh of Uttar Pradesh.

Police said the incident took place in the Tumchi Nowpora area of Pulwama when terrorists opened fire on the non-local labour.

"Terrorists fired upon one labourer identified as Mukesh of UP in Tumchi Nowpora area of #Pulwama, who later succumbed to his injuries," police said in a post on X.

The area has been cordoned off by the joint forces to trace the attackers.

This is the third violence incident in the last 24 hours in Kashmir.

On Sunday afternoon, police inspector Masroor Ahmad was critically wounded after a militant shot at him in Srinagar’s Eidgah locality while he was playing cricket.

Security forces on Monday foiled an infiltration bid in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district by killing an unidentified militant.
