Kashmir fight Terrorism: Top LeT commander among 2 militants killed in Srinagar encounter

Srinagar/UNI: Two Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militants, including a top commander active since 2018, were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Srinagar outskirts on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO early this morning at Ranbirgrah Panzinara on Srinagar-Bandipora road following a tip-off about the presence of militants.

However, encounter breaks out after militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons when security forces were moving towards a particular area in the open field in the cordoned off area.

Two militants were killed in the encounter, he said.

He said one of the militant killed was was Ishfaq Rashid resident of village Sozeith,Srinagar.

He was one of top LeT commanders active since 2018 and wanted in many cases of militancy violence.

He said other slain militant was Aijaj Bhat was important LET cadre from Pulwama district, he said.
