Kashmir aftermath: India bans Thar Express

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) After Samjhauta Express, India on Friday suspended the Thar Express running between Jodhpur and Karachi, till further orders.

Raillways suspended Thar Express from its end till further orders, CPRO of the North Western Railway CPRO Abhay Sharma said .

'Following trains stands cancelled till further orders --14889/14890, Bhagat ki Kothi-Munnabao-Bhagat Express train services and 00406/00405, Munnabao-zero point-Munnabao Thar Express train services,' Mr Sharma said in a release.

The Thar Express has been running between Jodhpur and Karachi every Saturday morning (1 am) since services resumed on February 18, 2006 after a 41-year suspension.

India had on August 11 cancelled Samjhauta Express days after Pakistan’s suspension of the train.

Pakistan had suspended the Samjhauta Express and the Thar Express trains after India revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan authorities had raised concern related to security of the Pakistani railway staff in the wake of fresh development after the Centre decided to revoke Article 370.
