Srinagar/UNI: Days after a militant group issued threats to over a dozen Kashmiri journalists, at least five reporters of a local newspaper have resigned.

The Resistance Front (TRF), which police say is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba has accused over a dozen journalists including editors of two local newspapers of working for the security agencies.

After these public threats, three reporters have published their resignations on social media.

"I announce my resignation from Reporter's position and disassociation from Media House …," a young reporter posted on his social media account.

The reporter talking to UNI said he has been attributed to something which he has never covered in his life as a reporter.

"Unnecessarily my name was dragged into it and I was attributed to something which I have never covered in my life," he said.

"I became a victim for being part of a newspaper … Other than giving resignation publicly I had no option."

J&K police has registered a case against LeT and its shadow group TRF over this threat.

The case was registered at Shergari Police station against handlers, militants and overground workers of the LeT and TRF under the stringent anti terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

"Case registered against handlers, active terrorists & OGWs of terror outfit LeT & its offshoot TRF for online publication & dissemination of a direct threat letter to Journalists & reporters based in Kashmir. FIR No. 82/2022 U/S 13 UAPA, 505, 153B, 124A & 506 IPC in Shergari PS," Srinagar police had said after the threat posters.

On Tuesday, four militant associates of TRF were arrested in Srinagar.
