Hubballi/UNI: Three Engineering students of a college here from Kashmir, who were taken into custody on sedition charges and released, were again arrested on Monday following opposition against their release from various circles.

Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner R Dileep said that Amir, Basit Talib hailing from Shopian district in Kashmir studying in Civil Engineering BE Course in KLEs Institute of Technology here, were arrested on February 15 for shouting pro-Pakistan slogans.

However, there were no proper evidence except for a video which they had put on social media, they were released after getting bond papers signed and they gave undertaking that they would appear whenever they were summoned.

But since release of the three students went viral, authorities started getting protest from various circles terming the release as illegal and it also took political colour alleging that the Karnataka police adopting double standard while releasing some of the accused in similar cases, arrested and kept in jail some of the arrested including a Head Mistress of a School in Bidar arrested and charged with sedition case, the Commissioner further said.

They were booked under relevant sections and further investigations were underway, he added.
