Karnataka: Three Kashmiri students arrested for raising pro-Pakistan slogans in college
Hubballi/UNI: Tension prevailed here in the KLE Institute of Technology on Saturday, when members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) assaulted three Kashmiri students for raising pro-Pakistan slogans on the first anniversary of the Pulwama attack.
The students, who had covered their faces with masks in the alleged video, were immediately taken away by the police for questioning. After questioning, all the three students were booked under sedition law and attempt to disrupt communal harmony. Taking cognizance of the incident, the college authorities have also dismissed the trio for their activities.
The ABVP activists alleged that the accused, who hailed from Kashmir, were studying in Civil Engineering Course. They had made a video in which they shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' (long live Pakistan) slogan, and forwarded it to their friends and the college mates.
The video had gone viral on the social media too. The accused students, reportedly, shot the video in the College's Hostel room where they were staying.
Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner R Dileep visited the Gokul Road police station and questioned the detained Kashmiri students.
Condemning the pro-Pakistan stance of the students, the members of ABVP staged a protest in the college premises demanding stringent action against them.
Karnataka Minister for Large & Medium Industries Jagadish Shettar stated that the government will not tolerate such anti-national activities. "Such incidents were not good for the progress of the country and that Hubballi-Dharwad was a peace loving twin-city and incidents like these weaken the social fabric," he said.
The police have already visited the college and are further probing the incident.
