Bengaluru, May 19 (UNI) A 50 year-old man died on the spot when a explosion took place in front of Congress MLA Muniratna residence at busy Vyalikaval extension in the city today.

Police said that the deceased Venkatesh, who was working in Munirathna's office, was walking on the road when the explosion took place.

City Police Commissioner Suneel Kumar, who rushed to the spot, told newsmen that the incident took place at about 0945 hrs and investigation is in progress to find out about cause for the explosion and source.

Muniratna, reacting to the incident, said that Venkatesh was a good person and very soft spoken. "We have to wait for police investigation. It is better to wait for police findings instead of spreading rumours."

Dog Squad and bomb defusing squad were rushed to the spot.

Preliminary reports suggested that Venkatesh was a Dhobi by profession and had shifted to quarters at Dhobi Ghat nearby and was working with Muniratna.

The explosion was heard at a distance of about 200 meters and people started rushing to the spot to help Venkatesh but in vain since he was lying in the middle of the road dead.

Vyalikaval Police have registered a case and investigating.
