Kali Puja: Kolkata Police restrict firecracker use to two hours

The Kolkata Police has restricted the use of firecrackers on Kali Puja and Diwali for two hours on Monday.

The police notification said people can burn crackers between 8 pm to 10 pm.

The notification said people can burn fire crackers between 6 am to 8 am on October 28 on the ocassion of Chhath Puja.

The notification, signed by commissioner of police Manoj Kumar Verma, has been issued “in compliance with the order of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India… along with order of the Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta… and Orders of West Bengal Pollution Control Board.”

People can only display and discharge authorised green crackers during the mentioned period, as per the notification.

"Any person contravening the order shall be prosecuted as per existing law," the notification said.
