New Delhi, Aug 13 (IBNS) : An unidentified assailant reportedly shot at  Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid in the heart of the national capital on Monday, media reports said.

Khalid reportedly escaped unhurt.

The incident took place outside Constitution Club of India on Rafi Marg.

According to reports, Khalid had arrived at the club to attend a programme.

Details of the incident are awaited.

Khalid, along with student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, and Anirban Bhattacharya, were arrested in February 2016 on charges of sedition in connection with a controversial event. They are now out on bail.

He was also rusticated from the university, but the matter is now pending with the appellate authority.
