Srinagar/UNI: A day ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, security forces shot dead two terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday, police said.

The gunfight erupted at Nawapora in Kulgam during an anti-militancy operation which was launched by joint forces following an input about militant presence.

"As the security forces cordoned the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists opened fire, triggering a gunfight," a security official said. “In the gunfight, two terrorists have been killed and a search operation is underway.”

The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists are not known yet.

This is the second gunfight in Kulgam district in the last three days.

On June 27, two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in Kulgam at Nowpora-Kherpora in Trubji village.
