Jammu, May 2 (UNI): Pakistan on Thursday violated the ceasefire and shelled forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"Pakistani Army this morning at around 0939 hours violated the ceasefire in Shahpur and Kerni Sectors of Poonch," a defence spokesman here said.

He added that Pakistan had initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation starting with firing small arms followed by shelling with mortars along the LoC.

"Indian Army is retaliating befittingly while no injury or damage has been reported so far on our side," he said.

However, the district magistrate has ordered all schools in Kerni sector to remain closed on Thursday.
