J&K: 24.66 pc voter turnout in first four hours

Jammu, Apr 11 (UNI): The first four hours recorded 24.66 per cent polling in two Parliamentary constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir with Samba recorded the highest of 35.91 per cent.

The polling process has been peaceful till now with no untoward incident reported so far.

In the four districts of Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary Constituency, Samba recorded highest 35.91 per cent polling followed by Rajouri with 30.80 per cent, Jammu with 30.57 per cent. Poonch scored 32.83 per cent in the first four hours.

National Conference leader and former MLA Devendra Singh Rana tweeted alleging that the Congress symbol button was not working in Shahpur area and other parts of Poonch.

Till 11am, 24.66 per cent polling had been recorded in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier in the first two hours of polling, overall polling percentage in the state was 11.43 per cent.

In Samba district, 16.52 per  cent votes were polled up to 9am followed by Jammu with 14.12 per cent, Poonch with 12.98 per cent and Rajouri with 11.88 per cent.

Over 20 lakh voters would be exercising their right to franchise in Jammu-Poonch Constituency in which total 24 candidates were in fray.

Meanwhile, security personnel were deployed in all the polling stations and special deployment was made in the sensitive, hypersensitive and vulnerable polling stations across the region.

Polling stations for women have also been set up at many centres having women polling staff and the security personnel.

The government has declared the polling day as a public holiday to boost the percentage of polling.
