Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, June 9 (IBNS) : A jeweller was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri town and cash was allegedly looted from him on Thursday eving, adding to the number of similar crimes after the change of Government in the state.

According to an NDTV report,  Rajesh Verma had just closed his jewellery shop and was on his way home when two bike-borne men shot at him.

Verma was taken to the district hospital where he was declared dead.

After the incident, hundreds of people went to the hospital and raised slogans against the police and the district administration.

This is the sixth major incident in Uttar Pradesh since last month.

Last month, armed robbers killed two persons while robbing a jewellery shop and a trader was shot dead in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's home base Gorakhpur.

Earlier this week, a businessman, his wife and teen son were shot dead right outside their home by four bikers in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur. The police called it a case of robbery.

A 36-year-old businessman was shot dead in front of the police headquarters in Allahabad days ago.
