Shopian, Mar 16 (IBNS): A woman special police officer was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian area on Sunday, officials said.

Kashmir Police Zone tweeted: " #Terrorists today shot at a #women police official Khushboo at Vehil #Shopian. She attained #martyrdom. We pay rich #tributes to #martyr for her sacrifices & condemn this gruesome act of #terror. We stand by her family at this critical juncture. @JmuKmrPolice @Sandeep_IPS_JKP."

The officer was shot close to her house, reports said.

She was identified as Kushboo.

Official sources told UNI news agency that suspected militants fired at a woman SPO, identified as Kushboo, outside her residence in village Vehil in Shopian at around 1440 hrs on Saturday.

“The injured was immediately taken to a hospital, where she succumbed,” they said.

They said security forces have been rushed and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers.

This is for the first time that a woman police personnel was attacked in the valley in the last over a decade.
