Jammu and Kashmir: Two OGWs of LeT arrested, arms, ammunition recovered

Srinagar/UNI: Two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of militant outfit Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested alongwith arms and ammunition in the frontier district of Kupwara, a police spokesman said on Friday.

He said on the basis of specific information regarding the movement of Anti National Elements (ANEs), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police along with 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 92 Batallion CRPF established Nakas at different locations in Handwara in north Kashmir district of Kupwara.

Naka party started searching of Vehicles and pedestrians during which at Chinar Park Handwara two persons riding on motorcyclist found in suspicious condition.

However, when they saw the naka they tried to escape from the spot but were chased and apprehended by the security forces, he said. The apprehended persons were identified as Liyakat Ahmad Mir, and Aqib Rashid Mir-- both residents of Hyen Trehgam Kupwara.

He said on their personal search Arms and Ammunition were recovered from their possession. During questioning it came to surface that the duo are working with LeT as associates and were about to distribute the Arms and Ammunition among the militants in South Kashmir. In this context Case FIR No. 363/2020 U/s 7/25 I.A.Act.,13,18,20 and 38 UA(P) Act has been registered in Police Station Handwara.

Further investigation into the matter is under process, he said.
