Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted the tricolor and took salute of the marching contingents on the 76th Independence Day at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar on Monday.

The function was held amid unprecedented security arrangements made in Srinagar which witnessed a militant attack on security forces at Nowhatta down town Sunday evening during which a security personnel and an unknown militant was injured.

Lieutenant Governor inspected the guard of honor. The marching contingents comprised JKP, BSF, CRPF, JKAP, SSB, ITBP, IRP, Women contingent, Forest Protection Force and NCC.

The celebration was held amid a drizzle in the sprawling stadium surrounded with the mighty Chinar trees.

"J&K is on the move. I call upon every section of the society to make their valuable contribution to a happy, peaceful & prosperous UT. On this Independence Day, let us take a pledge to make J&K Nasha-Mukt, Bhrashtachar-Mukt and Rojgaar-Yukt," Sinha said.

A colorful cultural programme was also organised by the artists of J&K.

Similar functions were held in all districts of the Valley where concerned deputy commissioners hoisted the tricolor.
