Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter breaks out b/w militants and SF in Srinagar outskirts

Srinagar/UNI: An encounter is underway between militants and security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar city.

This is the first encounter between militants and security forces in the Kashmir valley during this month.

Official sources said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) following a tip off about the presence of militants at Bagwanpora Noorbagh in Srinagar Saturday afternoon.

However, when the security forces were marching towards a particular area, militants opened fire, they said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

Security forces have so far recovered an AK 47 rifle and a pistol from the area, they said adding additional security forces have been rushed to the area to further tighten the cordon.
