Jalandhar district administration kicks off signature campaign to ensure 100 pc voting
Jalandhar, Apr 1(UNI): In order to ensure massive participation of the voters especially the youngsters and students during the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Monday initiated signature campaign for soliciting the support of youth for this noble cause from the local KMV College.
Kicking off the campaign by writing 'Proud to be a voter' along with his signatures, the Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, said that the move was aimed at sensitizing the young voters to come forward for strengthening the democracy at the grass root level.
He said that the students and youth could play a major role in further cementing the democratic ethos in the country.
Sharma said that this program under Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP) could be instrumental in making the young voters about their democratic rights.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration would organize more such events in the coming days to ensure that the message of ethical voting was conveyed to every nook and corner of the district.
He said that the hard-earned right of vote must not be wasted and youngsters must exercise it judiciously to strengthen democracy at the grass root level.
Sharma said that as India was a youthful nation with a sizable chunk of its population above the age of 18 years it was need of the hour to ensure that every youth registers himself as voter and cast it sincerely so that a new and progressive India could be carved out.
He said that those youngsters who were eligible but have not enrolled them as voters could apply for the vote till April 19th before the polls.
Sharma said that to facilitate the youth the Election Commission of India has launched National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline App).
