Hamburg, Aug 24 (IBNS): In a crucial order given by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on the two Italian marines accused of killing two Indian fishermen off the Kerala coast in 2012, it suspended all judicial proceedings against them.

The ITLOS asked  Italy and India to suspend all court proceedings in the matter.

It also directed them to file a compliance report by Sept 24.

The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea is an independent judicial body established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to adjudicate disputes arising out of the interpretation and application of the Convention.

"The Tribunal is composed of 21 independent members, elected from among persons enjoying the highest reputation for fairness and integrity and of recognized competence in the field of the law of the sea," read the official website.
