Issues were ideological, important to be raised: Sachin Pilot after meeting Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi/IBNS: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Sachin Pilot, who met Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra earlier in the day, said his rebellion was based on ideological issues, which were 'important to be raised.'
Speaking to reporters after meeting Rahul Gandhi exactly a month after he and 18 other dissident party MLAs declared a revolt against Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Pilot said: "I have said from the beginning that the issues were ideological and based on principle and I felt they were important to raise for the welfare of the party."
"I was even attacked personally but I kept those aside. I tried to raise certain issues which I felt ideologically wrong," he said.
Sachin Pilot thanked the Congress leadership for listening to him and said he thinks the issues will be solved.
"We have strived very hard to bring the Congress party to power in Rajasthan and am happy that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi listened to me and my experiences. I have said everything I felt and am sure a solution would be reached," he told reporters.
"I want to especially thank Priyankaji for taking time to hear out our issues and problems individually," he added.
He also said that he never bothered for the 'posts' and whether the party would keep him as a member will be the leadership's call.
"Ashok Gehlot was made the Chief Minister after the victory in the election. I was made the deputy. I don't want to address my issues in front of the media. I have never said or done anything that is not respectful," he told reporters.
Monday's meeting was seen as a "breakthrough" after weeks of standoff since Sachin Pilot launched his revolt against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in early July.
Meanwhile, in a meeting on Sunday, Congress members of Rajasthan legislative assembly (MLAs) have demanded that Sachin Pilot and the other rebel party lawmakers should not be accommodated in the party contrary to the wishes of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.
Rajasthan urban development and housing minister Shanti Dhariwal had said in the meeting held in Jaisalmer that betrayers should not be allowed to return, which was supported unanimously by other lawmakers, a Congress leader told HT.
Further, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot told the media on Sunday that the majority of the dissident party MLAs would return as they know that the public is angry with them.
Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has agreed to call an assembly session on August 14 after repeated requests by Gehlot, who said a session was necessary to discuss several bills, including one on the coronavirus pandemic.
Gehlot is aiming a floor test for his besieged government to put an end to the political crisis.
